a Matching Sound Effects professional audio product for documentary filmmakers, TV/Radio-journalists and podcasters
Lavalier Ambience is a collection of background sounds recorded in the same manner, and with the same kind of gear typically used in documentary filmmaking and ENG (Electronic News-Gathering.) These sound effects are designed to bridge the audio gaps that often occur while putting together the recorded content in the editing software.
There are tons of ambience/background sound effects from a vast variety of locations out there, recorded in all sorts of ways. Many are of fantastic quality and with low noise levels. However, the Lavalier Ambience Sound Effects Library is specifically recorded with lavalier microphones to match the noise levels and characteristics of documentary/run&gun filmmaking. We have strived to make these sounds matching in your mix as well as possible.
Making this product, we focused on:
Long, homogenous and uninterrupted takes Bridging audio gaps when editing the recorded audio, you’d typically need a lot of the same thing. The backgrounds/ambiences in this library are from up to 5 minutes in length, giving you enough variation to cover even a long scene/sequence.
A vast variety of locations As recording settings vary a lot, so should the sound library. Most sound effects are recorded in the Stockholm region over the course of 8 weeks, with continuous evaluation and optimization. One of the main challenges was locations that simply turned out being too silent. Due to the higher, and somewhat rougher noise levels that comes with our specific recording method, a couple of planned location didn’t make the cut quality-wise. The balance between noise and actual sound sources, was not good enough. Since everything is recorded in Sweden, in some files you can hear Swedish speech or other typical Swedish sounds. These files are named to indicate this (i.e. Metro train station, Large crowd, Sweden.wav).
The below image gallery shows a selection of the locations, as they were during the actual recording sessions.
Stereo recording with full mono capabilities All the sound effects in the Lavalier Ambience Library are recorded in AB-stereo, and more exactly short distance AB-stereo, with a distance of 25 cm (10 in) between the microphones.
Perfect mono is easily achieved by just using only one of the two channels. This is probably the most common use of the sound effects since most recording situations with lavalier microphones results in mono audio.
